Mon-Fri,      Plymouth-Canton Community Education 5-Day June 15-19        SUMMER CHESS CAMP FOR BEGINNER PLAYERS, held  at  Tanger elementary 9:30-11:30 AM         
School, 40260 Five Mile Road, Plymouth, MI 48170.  Students in Grades 1-5 from ALL SCHOOLS WELCOME!  Students learn chess history and fundamentals, use problem-solving puzzles, play in tournaments, learn Bughouse, play fun games, and more!  If you’ve never played chess before and want to learn how, or you’ve played but don’t know all the rules, JOIN US in this inspiring, instructional summer event!  Classes are limited to 30 students and include formal instruction followed by hands-on practice in actual play.  Focus will be on development of technique and general understanding of the game.  Fee:  $110, includes Reference Book, Trophies and Prizes for all participants!  REGISTER TODAY!  Call us at (586) 558-4790 or call Plymouth-Canton Community Education at (734) 416-2937.

Mon-Thurs,        The marygrove College Community June 29-July 2   Education  SUMMER  CHESS  CAMP  for  BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE PLAYERS 1 – 4 PM is a special interest camp that allows children in Grades 1-5 from ALL SCHOOLS to learn skills that will build character while fostering unique talents.  JOIN US for this inspiring, instructional and fun summer event!!  FEE:  $145, includes Reference Book, Trophies, and prizes for all participants!  Camp will be held at Marygrove College, 8425 W. McNichols Road, Detroit, MI  48221.  If you’ve never played chess before and want to learn how, or you’ve played but don’t know all the rules, JOIN US!  For Beginners, focus will be on development of technique and general understanding of the game.  For those students who already know most of the rules and how the pieces move, focus will be on fine-tuning their games, increasing their knowledge of opening and endgame tactics and strategies. This interactive class reviews the fundamentals of playing chess, including rules, chess etiquette, and use of clock and notation used in books.  Sound opening moves, tactics, and endgame strategies, and mini tournament competitions are covered with both groups.
